The Glowing City
Sunset's The Glowing City is a psychedelic trap for the patient indie-rock enthusiast. Bill Baird, formerly of Sound Team, balances his aloof vocals with sing-a-long harmonies, prog-rock rhythms, and subdued psychedelia. Throughout the album, the auxiliary instrumentation varies dramatically, from Moog synthesizers to a variety of horns and pitched percussion, lightening Baird's ever-present vocal ennui. The Glowing City's grandiose scope (18 tracks, 79 minutes) requires an investment, but rewards the listener with a collection of meticulously prepared pop songs disguised through experimentation with genre and arrangement.
