A Panoramic View of Sounds Under Radio
words by Francesca Camillo photos by Victor Yiu The men of Sounds Under Radio are very focused on sport coats. They are focused on many things these days—their mushrooming career, connecting with fans, tour scheduling—but right now, the big picture is out, and sport coats are in. In the tiny one-room Mercury Fashion House, where our photo shoot takes place, they handle the clothes with care and reverence while bantering amicably with Soundcheck staffers. They carry themselves with grace and good humor. This openness is hardly what one expects from an up-and-coming, radio-ready band, but, frankly, those terms are too limiting. Sounds Under Radio, as their name suggests, strive to have a mass appeal but skew themselves just to the left of center: they want to be deeper, truer, and more honest than standard radio bands. Judging from a few hours in a small space with them, as well as from their debut album (which, incidentally, was recorded in a notably small space), it is safe to say that they are hitting their mark.
