Q&A with Frightened Rabbit

Frightened Rabbit in Soundcheck magazine

As it turns out, it is really easy to get Frightened Rabbit into the backseat of your car. The bar below the venue they were set to play proved to be too loud for our interview, so we moved outside, where we couldn’t escape the idling growl of a tour van or the persistent clamor of traffic noise. Singer/guitarist Scott Hutchison, bassist/keyboardist Andy Monaghan, and I finally squeezed into the quietest place we could find: the back of my car parked nearby, shoulder-to-shoulder in a neat little row. By the end of the thirty-minute conversation, we had fogged up the windows against the cool spring air. Given that their music deals with issues of sex, heartbreak, and love gone awry, perhaps this is a particularly fitting space. No interaction that starts in a backseat can ever end well.
