We already knew about Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys and Sonic Youth. Who would be the other headliners? Will any bands from the current decade be playing? These were the questions filling the Blogosphere and Twitterverse. Last night, at the stroke of midnight, the lineup for the 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival was unveiled.
Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon and Ben Harper & Relentless 7 join Pearl Jam and Beastie Boys as headliners. Pearl Jam, who will be playing the penultimate set on Sunday night, have not played in Austin since 1995. That show sold out in a matter of minutes and locked up the University of Texas phone system, thus preventing yours truly from buying tickets. Phones were smashed against walls that day. It wasn't pretty.
Who else should you be excited to see? The Dead Weather, Jack White's new supergroup will be there. We're also psyched about Mos Def, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys, The Decemberists, Andrew Bird, Girl Talk, Phoenix, Bon Iver, !!!, Grizzly Bear, Passion Pit, Dan Auerbach, The Walkmen, DeVotchKa, Blitzen Trapper, Here We Go Magic, The Raveonettes, The Dodos, Deer Tick and School of Seven Bells.
