Update:Emo's East will celebrate grand opening with performance by the Butthole Surfers
AUSTIN, Aug. 17 , 2011 - After 20 years running on Red River Street in downtown Austin, Texas, Emo’s plans to open doors to Emo’s East, the newest location in the Emo’s family, on September 11, 2011.
Owner, Frank Hendrix, invites Austin concert-goers to see the state of the art room in action for the first time.
“Emo’s East started out as a dream to compete with the top live music venues in the country,” said Hendrix. “Now over a year later, we are opening doors to a room that is 100% designed for live music. We are raising the bar to a live music experience in Austin.”
Emo’s East will feature a 1700 capacity room with a 40ft vaulted ceiling. Complimented by a 35ft wide stage pumping glorious sound out of a D&B Q-Line main array sound system.

WHAT - Grand OpeningWHERE - Emo’s East. Located at 2015 East Riverside
Here's a sneak peek of what we can expect from the new, Michael Hsu designed Emo's location (Emo's East) at 2015 E. Riverside, the former home of The Back Room.
Scheduled for an August opening, Emo's East will be fashioned along the lines of Washington, D.C.'s 930 Club and will accommodate up to 1,700. It will feature state of the art sound and lighting, plus tons of parking. Citing the new ACL Live venue (see our cover feature of Soundcheck Issue #25) raising the bar, Emo's owner Frank Hendrix says Austin's current live music climate is right for Emo's East. "Both artists and live music fans in Austin are savvy and their expectations are increasing. We want to offer them a first class facility to meet those expectations."
